Many of us have faced illness and disease. The most challenging conditions are the chronic ones that drag on, often unnoticed by our friends and acquaintances. There are symptom-free good days and miserable bad days.
Whether your conditions are physical or emotional, one of the most important journeys you will ever decide to embark on is healing your body from the inside out.
The power of meditation and prayer should not be underestimated in helping with healing from the inside out. When you need strength and stability in your life, you need to know that you are not alone. This is the time you need to open your mind and your heart to a power greater than yourself.
This first means you need to surrender and let go of the outcome. Be willing to hand over your problem to God, a Higher Power, the Universe, or whatever you believe in, and have faith that it will be taken care of.
Prayer opens up our awareness, helps us focus, and expands our attention beyond our mind. Through prayer and sacred words, we open up our spiritual channels to the divine essence of God and limitless possibility.
If we are willing to let go and be open, we can experience God’s grace, forgiveness, love, and peace. Prayer does for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
Meditation studies have proven that it lowers stress and anxiety and can be very helpful to those suffering from illness and disease. Meditation gives you a sense of calm, balance, and well-being. Being in a deep state of relaxation has the ability to give the mind and body a much needed escape and rest from difficult realities.
There are several types of meditation. The easiest to start with is guided meditation, which any beginner can do successfully. Sit upright in a chair with feet touching the floor. If this is not possible it is okay to lie down. Get comfortable, relax, close your eyes, and listen while you travel on a journey through your subconscious mind and your body. You may feel like you are drifting or even floating, and you may fall asleep if you’re lying down.
There are many free self-healing guided meditations available on You Tube. Most of them have nice music playing in the background and they walk you through beautiful scenic visualizations while you work on letting go or imagine your health being restored.
If you prefer and have the mind control and discipline, you can try mindfulness meditation. Start by giving yourself five minutes a day in a quiet spot where you won’t be distracted.
Relax and bring your attention to your breath. Breathe in and follow your breath. Focus on the rise and fall of your chest. When your mind begins to wander, bring it gently back to your breath.
It can be helpful to use a mantra. If your mind wanders, you simply recite your mantra. ‘I am’ is one of the most powerful ones you can use. For example, I am abundant health or I am radiating perfect health through every cell of my body. Google “mantras” and you will find many choices available. Choose one that resonates and feels good to you.
Meditation is a true gift of self- love to yourself that will help you heal your mind, body, and soul.
